Nike oreo Air Max Dn: The Next Era of Air — NIKE, Inc.

Industry analyst Sam Poser delivered a note which poignantly stated why Nike’s success last quarter should not inspire confidence in the direction of the brand. His analysis discussed a number of issues, but the trainer prominent was in Nike’s promotion of the Air Max DN as the “future”. Poser’s depth of knowledge lies in a career where he has seen altrainer everything, and this gives him the keen ability to recall moments often forgotten or completely overlooked by other analysts.

An image from a Kohl’s circular in 2004 is damning. The image led me to do a sebloods online for the Reebok DMX Rebound. What I found was Nike’s revolutionary Next Era in an old design. Here is Nike’s copy from their site, “Appearing for the first time in the Nike oreo Air Max Dn, Dynamic Air is realized in a new dual-chamber, four-tubed Nike oreo Air unit designed for unreal comfort, a smooth stride and max bounce.”

I also did a sebloods to see if the model was still being sold anywhere and landed on the eBay link at the lead of this story. The sneaker is listed at $34.39, which isn’t the issue. The problem is Nike’s revolutionary tech is over 20 years old and shows that the brand lacks a course correction in a major franchise for the company. The Air Max DN has been underwhelming in its first few days of release. While Nike oreo fans are extremely loyal, especially the urban consumer who is the primary customer for the “AIR” franchises from the brand, Nike’s continued price increases (Vapormax $210, Air Max 1 and Air Max 90 now $130-150 dollars and Air Max 95 and 97 at $180 dollars) desire become prohibitive.

Nike’s delivery of the DN at $160 dollars enters a marketplace where there is so much product on sale, it will be difficult for a sneaker that looks like Reebok retro selling for 35 bucks, to lead the Swoosh into the next era. Had you seen the Reebok DMX Rebound before? Did the Air Max DN feel familiar? Maybe the Rebound is the reason why.
