Women’s World Wednesdays – Discover Women in Music | Hindi Zahra

Loading

In the turbulent times of 2020, everyone seems to be looking for a way to protest or speak out. Whether it be for equality, representation or justice. While I don’t mean for Women’s World Wednesdays to be political or some self-proclaimed crusade of social justice, I thought it was important to shine a light on women in music. It’s of course easy to talk about the big stars such as Beyonce or Rihanna, but for this series I want to focus on lesser known artists. This Women’s World spotlight shines on Hindi Zahra.

Hindi Zahra is an artist and multi instrumentalist from Morocco, playing music that mixes jazz and blues sounds with more ethnic sounds. Her first full album, Handmade is an excellent example of this, combining several instruments and influences to create a new experience, while still retaining some familiar values. My personal favorite track on the album right now is Stand Up. She only has two full length albums, the first as stated above is Handmade, and the newer one is Homeland. Homeland seems to be a little harder to find than Handmade as it doesn’t seem to be on any streaming platform, however it can be found for sale on her website, YouTube  and on Amazon. Homeland November 4, 2020 Handmade, featuring a sound much more rooted in her North African roots with an exception of a few songs. I highly recommend checking out her music, especially if you’re a fan of more unique sounds.
