Vince Score – The Vince score consists of scoring based on the topics below.
Total points attainable: (100 pts)

  • What’s the genre – The genre is a blend of rock and soul, with some electronic elements mixed in, giving the tracks a more modern sound.
  • Spread the love? – The melodies and chords vary throughout the album, both in style and arrangement. This variation gives the album a lot of sonic changes, but doesn’t feel jumbled or difficult to listen to. (18 out of 20 points)
  • Is the lyrical content compelling? –  In short, yes. Fantastic Negrito attacks a number of topics ranging from social issues to relationships. (19 out of 20 points)
  • Vocal performance? – Fantastic Negrito certainly has an easy to recognize style and as with his previous albums, it is displayed prominently here in all it’s gravelly glory. (20 out of 20 points)
  • Musicality? – The album is grounded in the blues but has elements of rock and hip-hop that are able to keep it from getting mundane. That being said, some songs feel somewhat familiar, which isn’t a bad thing, but certain songs could be a little more adventurous. (16 out of 20 points)
  • Standout tracks? – The album is strong overall, but these are the tracks that stole my attention. All up in My Space, Your Sex is Overrated and Searching for Captain Save a Hoe
  • is my favorite song on the album right now. The intro on? – Finding a low point in this album is, unsurprisingly, difficult. However while none of the songs are bad, as stated earlier some songs sound somewhat familiar (17 out of 20 points)
  • Bonus – Whats the genre.

Additional notesChocolate Samurai You must be Higher Ground by Stevie Wonder. The solo on Your Sex is Overrated is absolutely incredible but at the same time the music isn’t super innovative.  All up in My Space is my favorite song on the album right now. The intro on King Frustration is beautiful with that organ and those chords. Platypus Disaster is a great end to an overall incredible album. Fantastic Negrito has delivered on another fantastic album and I highly recommend taking a listen.
