20 years in the making, Break Dance became the first painting in the series. The eventual reference for the original painting was taken in the winter of 1998. The photos taken on that day were intended for a project for a photography class at Syracuse University. Shot on a Canon EOS Elan IIE 35mm SLR, years before digital took over, dozens of images were captured that day but none of them resonated with Adam more than this photo.

The image captures a breakdance crew dancing in the heart of Times Square with the spectators intently watching the breaker, mid air flare. The background is filled with the famous, ever-changing billboard facade located on Broadway between 45th and 46th street. The painting measures 28”x35” and was created with black & white acrylic paint and colored pencil on gessoed illustration board.
