After being invited to speak at the Footwear Innovation Summit 2019 in Los Angeles, I discovered how little I understood the importance of sustainability and technology in the sneaker industry. Sneakerheads buy more pairs than the average consumer. While this is good for the bank accounts of brands, it’s not good for the ecosystem. In this series I will introduce companies that are helping to improve the supply chain of footwear companies via innovations in science and technology.
Foundry is a software company that does much more than create 3D rendering software for footwear designers to utilize. They make software for multiple industries. The focus of this video is a quick introduction to two software components that help in the creation of footwear in a more efficient way.
If you consider the waste taking place in the creation of samples to see colorways and the constant design elements of taping lasts and using countless sheets of paper and materials in the process of creating models, Foundry’s MODO software allows for the 3D rendering needed to eliminate a lot of the old design steps. Colorway software helps in the creation of colorways all within the software allowing for the presentation of ideas to happen in real time during brand meetings.
