One of the most frustrating things in the world of foodies is travelling with people unwilling to try new menu items. The fam stopped by Clive’s Cafe which was only a short distance from our Air BnB and I immediately realized the spot would be a good one. There was a lot full of cars and a line in the takeout area. The Miami Heat game was on so no one was seated in dining area so we were seated quickly and given our menus. I jumped in to lead the way since I had researched a number of Jamaican cuisine spots in Miami, and I already knew what I wanted. I jumped on the plantains, jerk chicken and I had seen a review about the mac and cheese. I should have gotten the rice and peas, but the mac and cheese was old school flavorful. My wife got the rice and peas, but she didn’t get the oxtails as I hoped. She settled for ribs and usually she’s not a fan of sauce and likes them dry, but the sauce made for an excellent addition to the rice and peas. She couldn’t finish everything, and I was able to take over and clean her plate and mine. Our kids did the uneventful, non-foodie thing of getting fried shrimp and fried chicken. My daughter did love the plantains and my son ate all of his food, but that was weak sauce on their part especially since it’s my son who attends college in Miami and should be all over the fantastic international cuisine of the city. Here are pics and you can use the link to visit the site if you’re in the city. My score overall? 8 out of 10. It doesn’t rank as high as Pinch Kitchen, but the pricing is definitely better.
