There were countless hooping shoes before the Air Jordan 1 was born, but since its creation that sneaker has come to dominate the landscape. In the late 80s and early 90s Nike also hit on cross training models and tennis models like the Andre Agassi led Air Tech Challenge 2, which looked more like a iconic model than a tennis sneaker. The Tech Challenge went on to inform the design of Nike’s Yeezy line up.
A new company like On doesn’t have the history to capture the retro aesthetic of the Dunk, Air Force 1, Air Jordan 1, or Tech Challenge. Born in the 2000s, On has to build a new narrative around court sneakers. That’s exactly what has happened as the Clubhouse Mid caught fire in a collaborative effort with retailer KITH and now the model gets a more general release in 3 colors.
